Nurturing Responsibility from the Early Years

Dear Parents, Teachers and our beloved Students,

Research in child development shows that children thrive in safe, consistent and enriching environments, where everyday experiences lay the foundations for independence and responsibility. Responsibility does not simply emerge as children grow older. From a competency-based development perspective, it is built gradually from the early years through self-awareness, self-regulation, decision-making, and real-life experiences. Personal responsibility begins with understanding and managing oneself: recognising emotions and needs, caring for belongings, completing tasks and understanding that choices have consequences. Over time, children move from “being reminded what to do” to “knowing what needs to be done.”

From personal responsibility grows social responsibility. As children understand their role within their family, school and community, they learn to care for others, respect differences, cooperate and contribute to the shared environment. Every small action matters - completing a task, putting things back in their proper place, making a thoughtful choice, or helping others. Through consistent practice, children develop self-management, reliability and an awareness of their impact on others. Families provide the foundation. Schools create the environment. Teachers model responsibility. Students put it into practice.

When we work together to provide clear guidance, meaningful choices and opportunities to practise, responsibility becomes more than an expectation; it becomes an inner capacity that enables students to take ownership, care for others and contribute positively to their community. Nurturing responsibility today builds the self-directed, compassionate and responsible citizens of tomorrow.

Best regards,
Leadership Team

DENGUE PREVENTION - PROTECTING CHILDREN THROUGH EVERYDAY ACTIONS

Healthy habits today build a healthier future.

Dengue is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, which can bite during the daytime. Prevention starts with simple daily actions at home and at school:

Eliminate standing water
Check and remove potential mosquito breeding sites, such as plant pots, water trays, bottles, toys, and other items that can collect water, especially after rain.

Prevent mosquito bites
When playing outdoors, choose appropriate protective measures, such as clothing that covers the body and child-safe mosquito repellent, following the product’s instructions.

Monitor your child’s health
If your child develops a fever or shows unusual symptoms, monitor their condition closely and seek medical advice. If they experience warning signs such as severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding, rapid breathing, extreme tiredness, or lethargy, seek medical attention immediately.

At Sedbergh Vietnam - CVK, we believe health education begins with everyday habits and shared responsibility.
Let’s join children in becoming “Dengue Detectives” - little detectives who help prevent dengue.
1. Look - Be aware of your surroundings.
2. Tell - Let a trusted adult know when you notice a potential risk.
3. Protect - Help keep our environment clean, safe and free from mosquito breeding sites.

EARLY EDUCATION: BUILDING FOUNDATIONS,
NOT CHASING ACHIEVEMENT

The early years are a critical period for the development of the brain, language, emotional well-being, and social skills. Research shows that children thrive when they grow up in safe, responsive environments that encourage interaction and exploration (WHO, UNICEF; Harvard Center on the Developing Child). Early education, therefore, is not about teaching children as much as possible, as early as possible. It is about helping them develop the skills and confidence to become lifelong learners.

💕Nurture curiosity - encourage children to ask questions, observe closely, and discover answers for themselves.
💕Give children opportunities to be independent - let them take on age-appropriate tasks, try things for themselves, and learn from mistakes.
💕Connect before correcting - listen to children and help them name their emotions to create a sense of safety, which in turn helps them learn to regulate their behavior.

Learn through interaction and playful experiences - talking, reading, playing together, and responding to children’s initiatives are simple yet powerful experiences that support their development.

AT SEDBERGH VIETNAM - CVK, we believe the value of early childhood education is not measured by how much children know, but by the kind of learners they become.

Curious minds. Confident learners. Lifelong growth.

BỮA ĂN AN TOÀN – TẾT ĐOÀN VIÊN

A NEW MILESTONE IN SHAPING MUSIC EDUCATION EXPERIENCES AT SEDBERGH VIETNAM

TINY HANDS BRING COLOUR TO THE MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL

Mid-Autumn Festival is just around the corner at Sedbergh Vietnam - CVK. In the joyful atmosphere of the Moon Festival, our little “young artisans” at the Wolf House had the chance to make their very own lanterns and get ready to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival.

With colorful paper and simple craft materials, our little Wolves chose their favorite colors and patterns, let their creativity shine, and patiently brought their lanterns. Each lantern was not only a reflection of their creativity, imagination, and little hands at work, but also a meaningful experience that allowed the children to discover the beauty of Vietnamese culture and appreciate the traditions of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

THE LITTLE WOLVES’ JOURNEY TO FIND THE MOONLIGHT

MUSICAL STORYTELLING - WHEN STORIES COME ALIVE THROUGH THE SENSES

For young children, a story is experienced through more than words alone. Melodies, images, sounds, and movements that follow the rhythm can all become part of the learning experience, allowing children to explore stories through multiple senses.

Research in early childhood music and storytelling shows that combining music, language, and interaction can support children’s memory, language development, and musical appreciation. At Sedbergh Vietnam - CVK, “Musical Storytelling" is a special learning session where stories come alive through melodies, images, sounds, and movement. Children listen, dance, imitate sounds, and step into the roles of different characters, naturally developing Language & Communication, Social & Emotional skills, imagination, and musical appreciation.

With Respect as the theme, the Little Wolves took part in engaging games and stories to explore the differences in people’s characteristics, cultures, and emotions. Through these experiences, children began to understand that everyone is unique, with their own qualities that deserve to be heard and valued. Respect, therefore, goes beyond words - it is also reflected in the way children care for and treat the people around them every day.

At Sedbergh Vietnam - CVK, we believe that monthly Wellbeing Day activities give children meaningful opportunities to practise positive values in their everyday lives. Through these small moments, they gradually learn to respect, listen to and care for the people around them.

At Sedbergh Vietnam - CVK, every experience beyond the classroom is an opportunity for children to broaden their horizons, nurture their emotions and develop essential skills naturally.

PARENT GUIDE SERIES #5
IN THE FIRST FIVE YEARS: DOES YOUR CHILD NEED EARLY ACADEMIC LEARNING OR A SAFE, SECURE CONNECTION?

Many parents believe a strong start means learning to read, do math, or speak English early. Yet in the first five years, a child’s connection and interaction with their parents are among the most important foundations for healthy development.

Through observation and interaction, children learn how to communicate, express emotions, and respond to the world around them. Simple moments such as eye contact, a smile, or a short conversation can help children feel safe while supporting healthy neural connections.

Parents can start with simple everyday moments:
- Be fully present with your child
- Listen and talk every day
- Stay close through big emotions

“The first five years are not a race to get ahead, but a time to build the foundations for life.”

PARENT GUIDE SERIES #4
DID YOU KNOW: EMOTIONS CAN AFFECT A CHILD’S ABILITY TO LEARN?

Seemingly “small” emotions such as sadness, frustration, or fear can influence how children focus, explore, and take in new information.

When children feel safe, happy, and engaged, their brains are better prepared to focus, remember, and learn. In contrast, prolonged stress or anxiety can shift the brain’s attention toward coping with stress, making it harder to concentrate and problem-solve.

Parents can support learning readiness through three simple steps:
- Connect and soothe to help your child feel safe
- Name emotions so they can understand what they feel
- Find solutions together when challenges arise
When children feel heard and supported, they become more secure, confident, and ready to explore and learn naturally.

“The first five years are not a race to get ahead, but a time to build the foundations for life.”
